I made this icon using the Minifesto site. The text I used is
a verse from "Henry VIII" by Herman's Hermits, since it was stuck in my head at the time. Perhaps now,
it is stuck in yours? "I'm Henry the Eighth I am..."
GWIII responded with this icon, using the same
site. He added the Psi Corps badge (from Babylon 5) to the background, and used the lyrics to
"Mary Had A Little Lamb" (which people on B5 use to block telepaths from reading their minds). ( GWIII has his own icon library.)
This icon hits the geek trifecta. It features Penn &
Teller (as Rebo & Zooty) in a Babylon
5 episode ("Day of the Dead") which
was written by Neil Gaiman.
This is careyonly's cat; I gave it an evil red glow.
This one was created by request for my wife, who wanted an icon for her "grammar nazi" comments. She was
reading a book about World War II, saw some pictures of Hitler in various poses ranting to the crowds, and
thought it would be funny to string them together into an animation. I don't remember which of us thought
of adding the MC Hammer reference.
In my continuing quest to create ever-more-scary icons (the two immediately proceeding this one were
Willian Shatner's Has Been album cover, and Yoko Ono), I present Spooky-Vision (from the
South Park episode "Spooky Fish").
This icon comes from a Club Pogo avatar which my wife made for me,
back when we were still members.
I don't remember why I made this, nor am I sure where I got the source image from (probably superdickery.com).
I clipped this out of a larger image because it
looks like it has the word "HUH" in the center. (The larger image, by the way, it meant to be tiled; as
things travel from one side to the other, and from the bottom to the top.)
By request, I added a sparkle to bwaybeauty90210's eye.
After all the brouhaha over the Danish cartoons of Mohammed and the massive Islamic overreaction, I made
this animation. The source picture was one of the cartoons in question; the animation was inspired by
Wile E. Coyote, soooooper-genius.
This icon was made with the ACME Heart Maker for Valentine's
Day.
This assimilated capital "A" is from the banner I made
for my journal.
This one took a lot more work than my typical icon, but I really like the result (so much so that I
"signed" it). It's based on Pac-Man, but with LiveJournal user
icons instead of ghosts, and an animated (by me) community icon instead of a power pill. (It was evilgrins who originally suggested to me that I
do this.)

Richard in a sombrero at South of the Border – the East Coast's famous bastion of kitsch and
cheese (off I-95 just south of the North Carolina-South Carolina border, preceded by more billboards and
covered by more neon and fiberglass than it has any right to have). We actually stayed overnight there on
our way to Florida (for Richard's first visit to DisneyWorld). Richard looks very cute in hats, but often
refuses to wear them. No problem; that meant that we just took the picture for free and then put the hat
back on the shelf. (His mommy wanted to get him some Mickey Mouse ears at Disneyworld, but he wouldn't
keep those on his head either.)
While we were in Florida, we found a DVD in a dollar store (I forget what we were in there looking for)
with a nine-minute-long anime-esque adaptation of The Wizard of Oz. I bought it because I knew
that it would horrify rhpslips2.
Originally, I'd made a female allah_sulu doll because that was all that the
Candybar Doll Maker 2 allowed. Then,
when the Candybar Doll Maker 2 came out, I
made a male version. (The full-sized image is here.)
I made this icon from a video clip shot inside the Expedition: Everest ride at
DisneyWorld's Animal Kingdom – it's a yeti. This new roller coaster had just opened to the
public in time for our trip down there, and it kicks some serious butt. Disney also has something called
a "switch pass" which we made extensive use of; only one of us had to stand in line for the ride, then
when they get off the other parent got to jump ahead of the line to ride the ride – this
allowed us to ride one at a time while the other stayed with Richard.
Yet another "LJ Drama" icon (If you've spent any time at all on LiveJournal, you don't need an
explanation for "LJ Drama"). I got the idea for this one while taking care of a sick baby.
I made this icon by recoloring and resizing one of these rubber stamps (I also turned the frown
upside-down). It's a rather old inside joke; a green cube with a face on it is called a "Boog Cube" and
it refers to me.
I made this one for evilgrins; it's the dashboard display for KITT
(Knight Industries Two Thousand) from the original Knight Rider series. I also made one for KARR (Knight Automated Roving Robot), the earlier prototype Trans Am with AI which
escaped and was a recurring villain. (Just for fun, I made modified versions which followed "Auto Cruise"
and "Normal Cruise" with "Tom Cruise".)
I made this icon from the South Park episode "The Return of Chef" (here's another from the same episode), the one where they wrote out Chef due to Isaac
Hayes quitting the show.
This icon was made by request for berz.
This one was made for bmajors. Apparently, this is a common
misconception (no doubt aided by the fact that she plays Brad Majors at the Rocky Horror Picture
Show).
Another one inspired by South Park: it's a variation on Mr[s]. Garrison's "Muslim Sensitivity"
lesson, where [s]he explains the reasons why Muslim extremists are rioting and threatening violence over
Family Guy. I'd riot if you took away my vodka and bacon – I have no idea what that
other Allah is thinking.
As Mel Brooks has repeatedly demonstrated, Hitler is a laugh riot. I shrunk an image I found on fark.com and added the Deliverance-inspired caption (Alternately, I
could have quoted Steve Martin's old standup
routine about how it's impossible to be angry or depressed while playing a banjo).
The first frame ("What Would Sulu Do?") is a t-shirt for sale at goats.com. The second frame is my response. (No, there
is no reason give for why the shirt actually has a picture of Chekhov, unless he's the one following the
WWSD philosophy.) Good thing the shirt's not asking us what George Takei would do…
I made this one using the Dummiez Book Cover Maker
2006 site (full-sized image here).
The original animation was red and black; I just changed the reds to greens
because this one also reminded me of the aforementioned "Boog Cube". (I also made a blue one). The original image comes from a Bon Jovi album cover.
Oh, The Huge Manatees! I made this one because I was pissed off at Comedy Central censoring the
appearance of Mohammed in an episode of South Park (even though he'd appeared in a previous
episode, and even though the censored episode in question included a variety of much more offensive scenes
that Comedy Central had no problem with).
This icon was made from a picture on a Russian site (which has
some NSFW content, so be warned before clicking). It looks genuine, and I think McDonalds does serve
vodka in Russia (just as they serve wine in France with your Royale with Cheese).
The source image is from the sleeve to the "Come On Eileen" single by Dexy's Midnight Runners. The
caption is an obvious entendre. The font is "Monica's
Dress".
A panel from Dilbert. I know I feel that way sometimes when I'm reading someone else's journal/web
page/blog.
I had this idea on a Saturday morning at the Saturn dealership, while I was waiting for them to take care
of my car. The second frame (Uranus) was obviously inspired by Goatse.cx.
rackstraw inspired this one – he
posted a picture of the Spiderman DVD case
(with Spidey on the side of a building, looking up) and the line "If you're in such a hurry you could
lower a rope or a tree branch or find something useful to do…" I found another picture of Doctor
Octopus, and made an animated GIF with several lines of dialog from that scene (in The Princess
Bride).
Another "scary" icon, this one features Paris Hilton. The text on top says "No, you can't have my penis",
and the inset says "not yours". If I were to follow this cliché properly, the inset would have an
image of my penis. Instead, I put in a broken picture link thingy. You can thank me later.
The animated person was created on meez.com. I manually added the
Santa hat and flapping wings (definitely more effort than it was worth), and used a Google Image Search to find a bar scene for the background.
(Full-sized version here.)
This one was requested by ms-daisy-cutter. It's a
somewhat-incoherent Britney Spears saying "HUH?" on one of her home movies.
This is me dressed as Captain Feathersword the friendly pirate, a character from The Wiggles (a show from Australia for children). My wife is my
mate. This picture was taken at a Rocky Horror convention in Chicago.
I don't care what you say, I think this is hilarious. It's Mr. Humphries (John Inman) from the BBC series
Are You Being Served? The caption, "You Got Served", is from the box of the movie by the same
name.
I made this allah-sulu "card" by modifying and combining a
couple of different sprites from the Card Fighters Clash: SNK vs. Capcom videogame for the Neo Geo.
I made this icon for my wife from an ad for the "Rayman – Raving Rabbids" video game. I
also made another Rayman icon from this image.
Another cautionary slogan for LiveJournal users. This is paraphrased from a comment I made to ms-daisy-cutter, who suggested that I
make an icon out of it.
This one is a reference to the overabundance of off-topic posts in the Rocky Horror newsgroup about
the deaths of celebrities who are in no way related to The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The coffin
is from the movie, the caption is a snarky comment I've made in some of those threads.
A panel from the webcomic Penny Arcade,
featuring the Little Mermaid.
This was a particularly difficult reduction. The original image is a 2.2MB 150x113 animated
GIF with 480 255-color frames. I shrunk that down to a 40K 60x45 animated GIF with only 54 31-color
frames – a 98.1735% reduction.
Another difficult reduction, but not as difficult. This time, I only had to shrink a 1.6MB image (Data,
from Star Trek: The Next Generation, facing an MS "blue screen of death") down to 40K
(LiveJournal's upper limit for icons).
I always wondered if Choda-Boy (from Orgazmo) and Dipsy (from The Teletubbies) were
separated at birth…
For a long time I figured I needed a sheep icon for when I post stupid memes, quiz results, and the like.
This was the eventual result. The flying sheep is from an episode of Monty Python's Flying Circus;
and just for consistency, the Santa hat is from Monty Python's the Meaning of Life (from the
"Christmas in Heaven" dancers at the end).
This is a variation on the animated "Boog Cube" face above – I replaced the normal facial
features with Jack O'Lantern parts (and turned the whole thing orange) for Halloween.
