Rocky Horror in Chicago

[ Page One | Page Two ]

These are my pictures from the The Un-Toucha-Touchables Convention in Chicago, Illinois. It was thrown July 27-30, 2006, by the Midnight Madness Rocky Horror Picture Show floorshow cast.

A number of references were made to Chicago's "Roaring Twenties" criminals such as Al Capone, but I was more interesting in some of the more recent criminals to plague Chicago. This is Wabash Street, site of the police pursuit of Elwood and "Joliet" Jake Blues…

This is the Picasso sculpture in Daley Plaza, where the Blue Brothers' crime spree came to an end. This was within walking distance of the hotel, since I took these while Q and I were out in search of breakfast.

The Richard J. Daley Building was closed (it was a Saturday), so we couldn't go inside and find the Cook County tax assessor's office.

Emily (tugena13) is not an early riser (though her hair is), as was evident once we returned to the hotel and went to the Horse Brutality suite. There was some debate as to whether she was more reminiscent of Martin Short's "Ed Grimley" character, or Cameron Diaz in There's Something About Mary…

Q set up our Playstation 2 in the suite and employed Karaoke Revolution as a great icebreaker. She even got me to play, which is very difficult. I was shocked that I actually managed to beat someone with my abysmal skills. (Seated at left is John from Completely Crazy.)

Another thing we've brought to several cons is our greatly-expanded Apples to Apples game. I wish we got a commission for all of the people who've bought the game after we introduced it to them. The players, clockwise from the far right, are:

Jen (bmajors) and Rebecca (queenazura) in a couple of easily-recognizable costumes.

Kimmy (janetmajors)'s mother Mary Woodworth as a piratey Magentarrrr.

Dan Schwartz and Jordan White (cracksh0t), with the Rocky Horror puppets Jordan made.

The entrants in the Creative General Costume category:

There were a number of costume pieces on display. This case contains Frank shoes, floorshow gloves, and a floorshow corset from the original 1975 Broadway run of the Rocky Horror Show at the Belasco Theater; courtesy of Ruth Fink-Winter (ruthfw) and Wally Barsell.

And, spotted on our way out of Chicago, the Hotel Wacker over the Gaylord restaurant. If I were more mature, I wouldn't have snapped this picture and sniggered. But I'm not, so I did.
